about

The catholics' sixth album, a return to their trademark blend of jazz with global grooves, after the one-off ambient atmospherics of "Gondola".

Their first release on their own Bugle Records label, it was distributed by a company which sadly went bankrupt, and hence the album is no longer in print.

PRESS:

(4 stars) "Village sees the septet firmly in the good-time groove...
It's a glorious thing"
LIMELIGHT (AUSTRALIA)

"Acclaimed instrumentalists The catholics have returned to their trademark sound of fusing jazz with world music... An album packed with influences from African beats to island jive, and straight jazz. Perfect for a dinner party or a chilled afternoon on the couch"
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH (SYDNEY)

"On Village the songwriting and playing is very much a team effort, with the stars taking their turn to shine. Bruce Reid's Grace is outstanding: delicate and defined... Bright and breezy is the feel throughout Village... The catholics are a collection of great musicians who obviously enjoy each other's company and playing - and the ease with which they do this is the embodiment of teamwork"
CITY HUB (SYDNEY)

"As in global Village. The catholics take their intuitive feel for rhythm on a joyous globe-girdling tour, while opening up the palette to new writers from within the band and outside. Just the thing for playing on the verandah as the heat fades from the day" M+M (AUSTRALIA)

"With Village The catholics return to the breezy rhythms and perky melodies that made the band so popular... Much to satisfy"
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

"Brings typically infectious global rhythms and immediate accessibility...a brassy, boppy feel...It is hard to imagine anyone resisting the immediate charm and grace...It’s all rhythm and melody, with plenty of variety...Band leader and bassist Lloyd Swanton’s deft touch shows" HERALD SUN (MELBOURNE)
